ArchivalResource

Photograph albums, 1893, 1896.

Both photograph albums include some dated photographs, from 1893 through 1896, as well as undated photographs, probably from the same period glued onto pages. Both albums consist of loose pages of various size photographs, and a few newspaper and magazine clippings. Some of the photographs have come unglued from the pages. Both volumes have very loose, identical soft leather covers. V. 1 includes 17 pp. of photographs, notably the 1893-1894 Shakespeare Club, several of Old Mission (Mich.), one of Round Lake (Mich.), three consecutive photographs of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows parade on May 6, 1896, several photographs of a cat, and one each of a lightning storm, of the schooner Seaman at Marion Island, which was towed to Traverse City, 1895, and of the inside of an unidentified mine. V. 2 includes 14 pp. of photographs including groups of men and women in theatrical costumes, and one photograph each of William S. Hart of the Traverse City Opera House, the Milliken cottage, which traveled to the 1893 World's Fair, a fake "spiritual" photograph of Ray Wait with superimposed images of two robed women, of Tsar Nicholas II and Empress Alexandra, shortly after they married, and several photographs of Fort Mackinac (Mich.), as well as the funeral note of C. A. Crawford, 1893, from a newspaper. However, both volumes consist mainly of photographs of interior and exterior views of buildings, farms, boats, and landscapes located in or around Traverse City (Mich.), including, in V. 1 the Bunkman and Pratt residences, and the S. E. Wait Drug Store, and in V. 2, the Hannah Lay flour mill. Inside v. 1 is a small label which reads "Minnie B. Wait, Traverse City, Michigan."
